Chief of Police Plattsmouth, NE Police Department Chief Steve Rathman started his law enforcement career in 1992 with the Hall County Sheriff’s Department in Grand Island, NE as a Deputy Sheriff. In 1996, he moved over to the Grand Island Police Department and worked as a road patrol police officer and a traffic enforcement motor officer. In 1998, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as a patrol supervisor. In 2003, he was moved into the administration division and served as the training coordinator for the department. In 2010, he was hired as the Chief of Police in Plattsmouth, NE. Chief Rathman holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska, a Master of Arts Degree in Management from Doane University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy-216th session, Quantico, VA. In addition, Chief Rathman serves as an adjunct professor of practice for the college of professional studies at Doane University and has been certified as a professional law enforcement instructor in the state of Nebraska. Chief Rathman has been a Use of Force Instructor since 1995, with extensive experience in the field of law enforcement training and the development of the curriculum for training programs in the areas of Use of Force, Field Training and Evaluation, Supervision, Management, and Leadership.
